President's Message

The new year promises to be a year of growth in many areas of our lives, and in the life of The Garden Club of Austin.  We shall strive to learn from our prior successes and setbacks, building upon the foundations known as experience and history.  This club has an illustrious history of providing educational opportunities for members and nonmembers alike.  Here are some (but not all) of the activities which I'm hoping we, as a team, will continue to develop and share as the months progress:

Teams taking the TGCOA's educational message to the public
Growing the TGCOA website - a website committee to address
Continued monthly programs, including guest speakers and more
Organize one or two field trips to places of interest
Assuring each member has a copy of the club handbook
Archiving our club accomplishments/activities
Always provide new members with badges on a timely basis
Gather volunteers to beautify Zilker Botanical Garden
Create an atmosphere supportive of interaction and participation

Several of the above are ongoing activities.  Some are renewed commitments, with others being altogether new or resurrections of past efforts.  In all cases, the dedication and spirit each of us bring to our club benefits The Garden Club of Austin, our fellow club members, our scholarship recipients, and the Central Texas community.

My wishes for the new year?  Achieving success in each of the items listed above, and to increase our membership by over 50% during the next two years.

Here we go!  Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy, and successful 2006!

Dan Carter
President - The Garden Club of Austin
